Muju Firefly Festival
Muju-gun has been holding a firefly festival to protect fireflies and raise interest in nature since 1997, and the festival is Korea's representative festival with culture, environment, art, and education under the theme of ecology.
Fireflies usually live in wetlands or clean rivers, and most of their habitats were destroyed due to poor water quality, and they were found to live in rivers in Seolcheon-myeon, Muju-gun, and their habitat was designated as Natural Monument No. 322 on November 4, 1982.
The festival is meaningful in that it aims to restore and preserve the global environment that has been indiscriminately dug up and alienated by urbanization and industrialization, while recognizing the importance of the environment and forming a community to live together.
During the festival, visitors can feel and experience Muju's unique natural environment in the country of Bandi and Muju, a natural city, while enjoying ecological environment programs such as Firefly Mystery Exploration and Namdaecheon Life Plus to remind them of the importance of life.
